The underlying message is that it is possible for companies to purposefully create the smell of their organisation. I agree with him, it is very difficult to change people however you can create an environment in which people choose to participate positively and energetically.
In my experience leaders often lose their sense of smell, they are so wrapped up in the day to day that they do not view the environment they have created from their people's perspective. Surveys skim the surface at a point in time analysing organisation and physical environment without delving deeply enough into the emotional environment and the emotional experience of their people. Wise leaders effectively and constantly tune into this current.
Our purpose is to support companies to create inspirational work environments and healthy cultures and we do this with a process of in-depth analytics that measures the smell, and then we support leaders to purposefully influence it.
